DEACONS:
What is a deacon? Deacons are selected and elected
by the congregation to help provide pastoral care to members of our church
family. With their skills and talents these providers seek to support and comfort
families and individuals in need.
What do deacons do? Deacons help
coordinate hands-on care to people in need. Our goal
is to provide hospital and home visits, transportation,
or meals, when possible. Cards and notes are sent
in sympathy or encouragement. In short, deacons attempt
to reach out in Christian care for those who may
not receive it from other sources.
Which deacon in our church should I call? Please
remember that ALL our deacons are here to serve you
and your pastoral needs. All anyone needs to do to
access our care is to call ANY one of us. Do not
worry which of us you call--just call! We can't help
anyone if we don't know about the need. We are a
team. If the deacon you happen to call can't help,
he/she will know instantly who can. If the deacon
you call happens to be out of town, just call any
other deacon and we will help find the help you need.
Typical things we assist with are meals in a short-term
pinch; transportation to and from worship, doctor's
appointments, etc.; visits to those who are lonely,
sick, in the hospital, or shut in; and taking communion
to those who can't come to us. We are here for you!
It is a huge undertaking and our
deacons could use helpers in attempting to meet these
needs. Call any deacon to offer your talents and/or
time.
