News & Events:

Your Session at work
On Tuesday, March 11, the Session met at Perry Farm Village for its monthly meeting. Update on current staff openings: 3 excellent resumes have been received for the Nursery Supervisor position and these will be looked over. A committee consisting of Dan Bower, Joanie St. John, Alison DeCamp, Emily Ford, Patrick Nagi, Kaye Frang, Paul Chaney, and Jim Pollard have met and begun working on the hiring of the new Director of Children’s and Youth Ministries. Toby Jones and Kathy Bodzick are serving in an advisory capacity for this committee. The job has been posted on several sites and resumes are being read. The Session voted to support the Harbor Springs Senior Class Graduation party with a donation. Mission Team reported on some upcoming giving opportunities for Habitat for Humanity—the Hard Hat collection will take place on June 22, and on July 27 you will be able to purchase a Square Foot of the Habitat House to support the build. On July 19 the Mission Team is planning a Parking Lot sale so save your stuff! More on these later. Building & Grounds are keeping very busy painting, fixing, and repairing. Annie reported that they are 70% done with a long range strategic plan for the building inside and out. The Steeple People are coming in April or May to do an assessment on the repairs needed on the steeple. Worship Team—Discussion was held regarding the Blessing of the Animals being planned by the Harbor Springs Methodist Church for April. It was decided to join in this ecumenical service rather than doing our own in the fall. Welcoming Team reported on using the bulletin boards near the restrooms and the desk near the name tags as areas to keep the church family informed about events and things happening in the life of other church members. Adult Ed mentioned that the current adult classes were going well but would be ending in late April. There was some discussion about activities over the summer when the Snowbirds return. This will be looked into. Time was spent on discussing how all the various aspects of the church fit together within our own church, the larger community and Presbytery, and the world as a whole. This will be an on-going conversation as we take the ideas formed during the Visioning Process for the new pastor, and make them work in an ever-changing church environment. There was also a short discussion on Dr. Bilezikian’s visit in January and most of the Session agreed that it was a very worthwhile weekend. Jim hopes to bring other speakers in to share with us all. The evening ended with the blessing of some beautiful prayer shawls now ready to go out into the world to “demonstrate the relevance of His word to all people.”
